Bulk Physicochemical Material Testing

We perform comprehensive bulk physical and chemical material testing using advanced techniques to analyse elemental composition and physical properties. These insights ensure optimal material performance across various applications, including chemical, geopolymer, cement, and concrete products.

Crystallographic & Amorphous Material Testing

We conduct precise crystallographic and amorphous material testing using advanced X-ray techniques. Additionally, we analyse amorphous chemical composition to accurately quantify material reactivity, supporting quality control in manufacturing to ensure consistency, reliability, and optimal performance across various applications.

Microstructural Material Analyses

We specialize in microstructural analysis using advanced techniques like Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS). These methods provide detailed insights into material microstructure, supporting comprehensive characterisation, reactive behaviour assessment, and quality control to ensure optimal manufacturing and performance outcomes.

Mechanical & Durability Testing

We conduct comprehensive testing on the fresh, mechanical, and durability properties of cements and concretes to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Our fresh property testing includes flow, setting time, and workability assessments, ensuring proper consistency and ease of placement. Mechanical testing evaluates compressive, tensile, and flexural strength, providing insights into load-bearing capacity and structural integrity. For durability, we perform porosity, efflorescence, leachate resistance, and accelerated aging tests to assess resistance to environmental factors and long-term degradation. These analyses help optimise material performance, sustainability, and compliance with industry standards.

Chemical Reactivity & Speciation

We assess the chemical reactivity and speciation to understand how their components behave during processing, activation, and long-term service conditions. Through targeted analytical techniques such as quantitative Nucelar Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (qNMR), process engineering & reactivity modelling, we can identify the reactive phases, dissolution behaviour, and chemical interactions that control material performance in chemical, cementitious, geopolymer and other engineered systems from the cement and concrete sectors, to agriculture chemical and beyond.

Understanding chemical speciation is essential for predicting how elements and compounds are distributed within a material and how they may transform under different environmental or processing conditions. These insights allow us to evaluate reaction pathways, optimise mix designs, and anticipate potential durability or environmental risks such as leaching or secondary phase formation.

By combining chemical reactivity analysis with our broader material characterisation framework, Reformix helps clients optimise formulations, improve processing efficiency, and ensure reliable performance in commercial products and industrial applications.

Environmental Leaching Testing & Assessment

Reformix conducts environmental leaching tests and assessment frameworks to evaluate the potential release of elements from materials under realistic environmental conditions. These assessments are critical for determining whether industrial by-products, recycled materials, or novel construction products can be safely used in infrastructure, land applications, or other commercial uses.

Our approach focuses on understanding the mobility of chemical species within a material and how they may behave when exposed to water, varying pH conditions, or long-term environmental weathering. Through controlled laboratory testing and analytical interpretation, we identify potential environmental risks and provide evidence-based guidance on material suitability and regulatory compliance.

Environmental leaching assessment is particularly important when working with industrial by-products, mine residues, and alternative cementitious materials, where the safe encapsulation of trace elements is essential. By integrating leaching data with broader material characterisation and formulation analysis, Reformix helps clients validate environmental performance, support regulatory approvals, and unlock new pathways for the beneficial reuse of materials.
